Oral Sedation in Espanola

Take The Edge Off, Stay In Control

If dental visits leave you feeling anxious or tense, oral sedation may help. It involves taking a prescribed pill before your appointment to help you feel calmer, more relaxed, and less aware of time passing — while remaining awake and able to respond.

At Espanola Dental Centre, we use oral sedation to support patients who need a little extra help getting through their appointment comfortably.

Who Can Benefit From Oral Sedation?

Oral sedation is a good option for patients who:

Experience moderate to high dental anxiety

Have had negative dental experiences in the past

Have a strong gag reflex

Need multiple procedures in one visit

Have difficulty sitting still for long periods

It can be used for both routine and more complex treatments — just let us know what you’re feeling, and we’ll talk through what makes sense for you.

How It Works

You’ll take the medication (typically a type of benzodiazepine) shortly before your visit. It may make you feel drowsy, light-headed, or disconnected — which helps reduce tension and make the experience easier.

Because it affects your alertness, you’ll need someone to drive you to and from your appointment. Most patients feel back to normal within a few hours.

What To Expect During Your Visit

You’ll be monitored throughout your appointment for safety and comfort

You’ll still be conscious and able to respond to questions or instructions

You may remember very little about the procedure afterward

We’ll go at a pace that works for you, with the same caring approach we bring to every appointment

Is Oral Sedation Safe?

Yes — it’s widely used in dentistry and considered very safe when administered properly. We’ll review your health history beforehand to ensure it’s appropriate for you, and we’ll provide clear instructions for what to do before and after your visit.
